Leslie has freelanced for the last 15 years designing image driven books for arts institutions, museums and university press publishers. She designs the jacket and interior of each book and frequently manages the production process from concept to finished product. After graduating from San José State University in 1982 with a degree in graphic design she moved to Los Angeles to study at Art Center College of Design. Leslie began her career as a graphic designer at the J. Paul Getty Museum and the Getty Trust. She designed books and publications related to the museum’s collections and its educational mission. Her book and publication designs have received awards from the American Association of Museums, The American Association of University Presses, and Bookbuilders West. the subject of the book always informs Leslie’s design decisions. She does not use templates because every manuscript is as unique as its author’s vision. Book publishing is a collaborative process and Leslie works with authors, publishers, editors and printers so that the final design enhances the book’s content and ultimately engages the hearts and minds of readers.
